PHIL STEVENSON TRIO

Phil Stevenson - guitar / Hugh Birkenhead - keys / Pat Levett - drums

The Phil Stevenson Organ Trio plays melodic funk, blues and improvisation. Influenced by artists such as The Meters, Eddie Harris and Jimi Hendrix, the band's aim is to explore the 1960s funk sound. The trio draws on New Orleans music, James Brown, soul-jazz, as well as raw blues and occasional nods to joyful West African guitar styles.

"...a very tasteful mixture of tunes that will keep all of the audience interested. Drawing on influences like the Meters and Jimmy McGriff for his originals, Stevenson knows how to pay his respects and then add something new." London Jazz News

Horrible DJ with bad music. I wouldn't have been surprised to learn he was new at his job. All he would play was house music which was fine at first. But after the dance floor cleared out, we requested some different songs/type of music. But he refused saying he’d only play house music. Why? If there is no one on the dance floor but there are people wanting to dance to a different kind of music to celebrate new years after midnight, why not oblige? Also, he didn’t even do a count down at midnight! Then there was only one bar opened with three bartenders. At 22.00 I queued for 30 minutes to get my first drink. Why not open more bars? All around so disappointing, especially for the price! I’ve always heard good things about Hidden Rooms, and was excited to go for my first time on New Years. This experience has ruined it for me, and I’m not sure if I’ll want to to try that club again.

Bad music. Bad cocktails. Bad lighting. Wasn’t a vibe. We actually left at half 11 because we wanted to do the nye countdown somewhere better
